Emmet & Anu
He walks thru the airport and finds a phone store,
with a piece of paper that asks for an English phone,
his credit-card clears and the local phone starts,
and uses a translator app buying service and exits the airport,
Then catches a taxi from an ordinary busy sidewalk,
and this afternoon asks the driver for a dog.
He’s taken to a restaurant and he exits,
using the camera translator to see it’s a restaurant,
and after convincing the manager that he doesn’t want food,
and doesn’t want raw meat to take away,
he finally translates that he wants a living dog,
and with this the manager has a dog delivered.
A small pickup truck of red and white,
many cages and one large terrier bulldog,
arrive with little ceremony and less conversation.
He waves at the dog and smiles as the dog scowls at handler,
and despises them as he pays for the dog,
yet before the dog can be leashed he takes the lead,
he ushers the delivery driver to open the cage.
They ask about the ways to yoke the animal
He says common ways will be ignored if so
They ask about the only way he will choose
He tells of eyes seeing thru coffins for ghosts and liars
A ceremony of apprehension and confusion,
with some mockery and ridicule the cage is opened,
here the dog sits in a staring contest with him.
He asks the dog if he’s happy and the dog stands,
he asks the dog if he’s ready and the dog wags,
he tells the dog to exit the cage by patting his own legs,
and he and the dog run down the street away from the sellers.
Initially silence followed by laughter and joking,
they watch him run and the dog jog,
until close to horizon of the suburban street,
before running around a corner in the distance.
